Grooved Dowel Pins—Grooved dowel pins, also known as Lok Dowels, have grooves located on a centerless ground pin. They are commonly used when one side of an application needs to be repeatedly removed. The grooved portion of the dowel stays locked into one half of the assembly and allows the other side of the application to be separated easily. Vent Dowel Pins–Vent dowel pins closely resemble solid dowels, with the addition of three helical grooves that run along the diameter. The grooves help to relieve air locks when solid dowels are placed in a round hole. The three helical grooves on a DRIV-LOK Vent Dowel® function as vents to relieve air locks that may occur when standard dowels are inserted into blind holes. The helical grooves provide a width and depth sufficient to relieve the airlock without disturbing the .0005 in. total diameter tolerance of the pin.
Plain Pins
Plain pins are solid cylindrical pins with a cold-drawn finish. Like dowel pins, plain pins are held in place by an interference created around the entire pin circumference when pressed into a hole. The insertion, holding, and radial forces generated by these pins are very sensitive to hole diameter variation and usually require the use of a reamed hole.
We offer various ways to customize our plain pins, including materials, diameters, lengths, end configurations, heat treatments, and finishes. When determining the right dimensions, keep in mind that plain pins with diameters up to 1/8″ have a tolerance of +.000/-.001 in., and diameters 1/8″ and over have a tolerance of +.000/-.002 in.
